Ape Shit

#1 We are like you
I produced this charcoal and conte series towards the end of my first year of varsity. We had to illustrate the relationship between man and animals but it couldnt be too literal. We could approach it from any angle we liked and we had to draw on A0 size sheets of paper in order to loosen up. This was my favourite project from my first year because it truely reflects more of my own style and artistic ability  (because we were given quite a lot of freedom).

I began drawing gorrilas just as they were and then i realised that they actually resemble rather human like characteristics, like in my first drawing how he is sitting down with his arm resting on his leg, looking at the viewer intensely. The 2nd drawing looks like a stereotypical family portrait and the 3rd one resembles a rather more abstract perception of the madness of humanity.
